OVERVIEW
Situated in the popular suburb of Greystones is this fabulous 1920’s semi-detached home. The owners had purchased the property as a renovation project and wanted to modernise the building’s interior whilst preserving its characterful period features.
The ground floor arrangement, which comprises an open-plan kitchen/diner, sun room and living room, required flooring that created a natural flow from room to room. To create a clean, continuous appearance, we used the same oak flooring throughout. However, to make the design futureproof and allow the client to restore just one room at a time, we slightly changed the pattern of the flooring in each room and used finishing points to create clear zones.
We fitted engineered oak parquet flooring in a herringbone style which is both timeless and hardwearing. The flooring was finished with a Osmo Polyx®-Oil in clear satin. This beautiful finish has a subtle, noble shimmer and emphasises the wood grain modestly. The golden-toned hue creates a warm welcoming feel and a sense of space and light.
Project Challenges
Mr Gosling first contacted us in June 2019, having seen our work in another customer’s home. He wanted wood flooring throughout the ground floor of his property.
As well as the unique character, quality and durability of wood flooring, Mr Gosling was attracted to the fact it can be easily restored by sanding down. With that in mind, he was keen for each room to have its own finishing point. That way, if he wanted to restore one room – a high-traffic area, for instance – he could do so without sanding all the floors.
The flooring also needed to be compatible with his existing under-floor heating system. Not a problem for our expert installation team.
Our Solution
To deliver on Mr Gosling’s unique requirements, our installation team suggested slightly changing the traditional pattern of the flooring to allow for this.
In each doorway, we recommended using wood flooring blocks as ‘soldiers’. This gave the customer the finishing point he was looking for, effectively separating the flooring in each room.
The Installation
We installed engineered oak parquet flooring throughout the ground floor of Mr Gosling’s home. Despite the scale and complexity of the project, we managed to complete the installation in less than a week, from 10th-15th June.
Most importantly, there was zero compromise on quality. The wooden flooring looks truly stunning in situ and will last for decades. It’s also completely compatible with the client’s underfloor heating, and can of course be restored room by room should he choose to do so.
